Frequently asked questions 🧐

Your highlights are organized into different lists. You have the choice to sync specific lists or to keep them locally. The lists are synced using chrome.storage (https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/reference/storage/). We do not store or track what you are saving.
We do not want to have a ‘subscription business model’. That is the reason why we decided to use chrome.storage (https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/reference/storage/) and not a backend database. In other words, we do not have any backend costs. Therefore, Stringmark will never disappear even without revenue!
We decided to use chrome.storage to sync highlights (see the answer to "How is the premium version a one-time payment and not a subscription?" to understand why). Chrome Sync storage is limited in size: 100 kb which is roughly 370 highlights in Stringmark. However, you can save unlimited highlights locally.
Yes you can save unlimited highlights locally. By default lists are saved locally but you are able to sync specific lists. Keep in mind that Chrome Sync storage is limited in size: 100 kb which is roughly 370 highlights in Stringmark. You can track your Sync storage utilization with the progress bars in Stringmark.
By default lists are saved locally. To sync a specific list, just click on it, click on 'Settings' and on 'Turn on sync'. A little cloud icon appears next to synced lists.
